Q2 - Assignments Week 1\
The movie I choose to due was Raiders of the Lost Ark.
This movie was great for the mise-en-scene areas. For costume, the differences show what is happening in the movie and storyline. The main character, Indiana Jones can be seen with his hat, leather jacket, and whip. When the audience sees him wearing this clothing set it can be inferred that adventure is in store. When Indiana is not wearing this, such as at the college as a professor, he wears glasses (something we never see him wear on adventures) and is missing his leather jacket and the classic fedora.
After this Setting and lighting are well related. Most of the caves and caverns he ventures into to retrieve the old treasure and lit very darkly with light shining on the gold to make it have an emphasis on the treasure. Areas like the desert are obviously well lit, so are fight scenes to show what is happening in the fight and who is winning. Traps are usually a little bit more lit up in caves to show the threat that is happening and how close Indiana is close to death. The college is always well lit up and so are other outside settings, which is probably lit up naturally by the sun.
The staging is usually around Indiana and people following Indiana around, as he is the most adventurous. Other characters are not as skilled as Indiana with exploration and do not have enough skill in combat to face other people, which makes sense for Indiana to be in the front. There is also a couple event where someone ventures in front of Indiana and ends lead to them both being in a trap, so the audience is used to seeing Indiana in front, or else they might walk right into a trap. This movie used the general formats of mise-en-scene greatly.
